ABOUT/SOBRE
The pianist Tensy Krismant was born in Havana in 1964. He currently works as a piano and chamber music teacher at the Higher Music Conservatoire of the Liceu of Barcelona. He studied music at the Fine Arts Institute (Instituto Superior de Arte) in Havana, where he became a Graduate and Concert Pianist in 1986. He was disciple of masters such as Silvio Rodríguez Cárdenas, Andrés Alén, Jorge Luis Prats, Jorge Gómez Labraña and Stanislav Pochékin, and later worked as a teacher at the National Art School of Havana, the Higher Music Conservatoire of Zaragoza, and at the Spanish music conservatoires of Tarazona, Alcañiz and Teruel. He has also taught at the Yehudi Menuhin International Music Course, among others.

In 1989, after having obtained the First Prize and the Gold Medal from the Teresa Carreño Piano Competition in Venezuela, his artistic career became remarkably more intense through recitals and concerts held in important Latin American and European venues. His performances in Cuba, Austria, Spain, France, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela have been subject of praiseworthy reviews on the part of specialized critique.

Tensy Krismant is also an enthusiast of chamber music. He regularly performs along with Esemble Zellig, a chamber ensemble based in Paris, with whom he has played pieces by the composer Thierry Pécou for the music label Sonogramme – París. He is a member of the quintet Meli Tango, an instrumental ensemble which performs concert Tango – a seductive format and sound for artists belonging to all music genres nowadays, due to its free and passionate style.
As a performer, arranger and composer, he has chosen the pleasure to explore the rhythm roots of the Cuban music expertise. In 2003, his record FLASH CUBANO, was selected for the Latin Grammy nominations and nominee at the award Cubadisco 2003. This record production by the Spanish label Ayva Música, by Unicornio, Producciones Abdala in Cuba, and by Pimienta Records in USA, mingles tradition and new trends in chamber music, placing Cuban concert music for piano and Afro-Cuban popular percussion, in a similar aesthetic level. The outcome is an innovative sound image of the concert piano, where the natural convergence of highbrow and popular culture holds a place of honour.

He has just finished the recording of his new work, PACÍFICO, together with the Cuban pianist, arranger and composer Miguel Núñez. One of the pieces included in the record, “Alaluz”, has provided the music for a documentary on the traffic of children, produced by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF). He has also created the music for various audio-visual works, among which the Cuban feature films “Mañana” and “Ahora” by the director and scriptwriter Alejandro Moya are found; the documentary “Asia en Barcelona”, produced in Spain by De Armas Film and Casa de Asia; the videoart work “El cant dels ocells”, where he performs his own arrangement of this popular catalonian melody which belongs to a CD carried out together with the cello player Iñaki Etxepare, and where pieces by Villa-Lobos, Debussy, Falla and Brahms are also included. Other recordings that stand out are the CD Tensy Krismant in “Recital”, where he plays the Sonata in B minor by Franz Liszt, as well as works by Mozart, Bach-Busoni and Liszt.

His passion for music goes along his vocation for painting. In 2003, he launched his first exhibition and concert in Geneva, at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WOPI) on the occasion of the Day of Cuban Culture organized by the Cuban Delegation for the United Nations. One year later, he went back to Geneva in order to exhibit his works at the World Trade Organization (WTO). In November 2005, he offered a concert at the United Nations Palace on the occassion of the opening of the ArtCuba event. In Spain, he has exhibited his paintings at a number of collective exhibitions along with other Cuban artists.
